Moving beyond guesswork: How genetic profiling, fiber-type ratios, and intrinsic motivation drive athletic potential.
Since starting my work as a sports nutrition technician and coach, my role has always been to help individuals achieve peak athletic capacity using the latest science-backed methods.
When I first integrated DNA testing for sports performance into my practice in 2015, it transformed how we personalize athlete protocols. A simple saliva swab reveals a narrative far deeper than ancestry, it exposes the exact genetic variations that dictate how your body adapts to training, absorbs nutrients, and recovers.
While epigenetic factors (training, nutrition, environment) are under our direct control, your underlying genetic architecture dictates how your body responds to those inputs.

Physical Factors: Power vs. Endurance
Our genetics dictate key physical predispositions, particularly regarding muscle fiber distribution:
Slow-Twitch (Type I): Athletes with a higher endurance genotype excel in sustained activities like cycling, distance running, and swimming.
Fast-Twitch (Type II): Athletes with a strength/power genotype thrive in explosive modalities like sprinting, competitive lifting, and combat sports.
The 50/50 Split: The majority of the population carries a balanced distribution, requiring strategic, hybrid programming to maximize both power and aerobic base.
Mental Factors: Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivation
Genetic profiling also sheds light on psychological predispositions. DNA insights reveal why certain clients are naturally self-reliant and intrinsically motivated by the process, while others require structured, goal-oriented targets (extrinsic motivation) to maintain consistency. Understanding this allows us to tailor not just physical programming, but behavioral strategies.

Deep-Dive Masterclass (45-Minute Webinar)
If you want to explore the full metabolic breakdown, genetic markers, and practical application of DNA testing in elite training, watch the full 45-minute deep dive below:
Key Takeaway from the Session: Genetics provide the map, but lifestyle drives the vehicle. Combining DNA testing with clinical assessments (such as bioimpedance body scanning and metabolic metrics) eliminates guesswork and establishes a precise pathway to your goals.
